A MI PATRIA / TO MY MOTHERLAND / INANG-BAYAN is an anthology of Dr. Jose Rizal’s poems interpreted in Filipino Sign Language [FSL] that tells of his deep love, longing, and respect for his country. This is the first-ever translation of his poems in visual-gestural form. The film aims to show the beauty of FSL, and to tell the Department of Education that FSL exists and should be used and recognized as a medium of instruction in teaching Deaf Filipinos.
Rizal [b. June 19, 1861] is the National Hero of the Philippines who was shot to death by a firing squad on December 30, 1896. Cast: Aldrin Gabriel [Deaf], Mark Gaspar Steven [Deaf], Jorelle Faytaren [Deaf] and Romalito Mallari [Deaf]. Music by JM Diego and Roselle Pineda. An omnibus film by Miranamedina made in collaboration with NCCA and DLS-CSB SDEAS in celebration of Dr. Rizal’s Sesquicentennial Birth Anniversary 2011. Versions in Filipino, English and Spanish will be finished and released in 2012. The spoken language versions are intended to serve the interests of the Blind, regular students of Rizal Course and interested laymen.
