Manila Campaigns for PWD Rights

The Manila government has intensified its campaign to address the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with the opening of the PWD Affairs Office (PDAO) at the ground floor of the city hall.

Though the agency was created last year, it was only recently that the city government held a wide-scale information drive on the rights of and services of PWDs as provided for in the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.

“We have been receiving complaints that PWD lanes along roads are being blocked by cars and that PWD identification cards are not being honored for discounts by establishments selling basic necessities like medicines or food,” Jay de la Fuente, the city’s social welfare and development department chief said.
